Project on Female Foeticide :

BCF carried out the project, “Sustaining the Campaign against sex selection” , funded by UNICEF and managed by Dr. Sabu George. Dr George, a consultant with BCF has been working on ‘issues of girl child’ for more than 21 years. The project aimed at:

Responding to global media concerns of ‘missing girls’ in India.
Monitor new media like internet for identifying violation of PNDT law.
Plan effective actions to restrain sex selection such as advocacy with the government, seek appropriate judicial remedies.
Initiate dialogue with well known corporate leaders to ensure that new technologies of sex selection will not be unduly produced and marketed in the Indian business world.
The activities included organizing media sensistisation workshops, motivating special investigations, assisting legal interventions to facilitate the implementation of the PNDT Act, 1994 and supporting local campaigns against sex selection and female foeticide.
Amongst the series of workshops organised as a part of this project, one of the workshop was hosted by KCIL at Renukoot in Sonbhadra district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The participants included community leaders, journalists, representatives of Mahila mandals & local clubs, doctors from the KCIL & Hindalco and participants from the State Employees Insurance Corporation.

FLO –FICCI Ladies organization has taken up combating female Foeticide as one of its key areas with at least 25 companies taking it forward as a theme from 2008.

Awareness and Prevention of HIV/AIDS Awareness & Sexual Harassment at Workplace : a workshop was organised on 25th February 2005 in New Delhi.

Sustainability Reporting & Global Reporting Initiative : a workshop, conducted in collaboration with Development Alternatives, LEAD India and US-AEP in May 2005 in New Delhi.

‘‘CSR in Asia’ Where we are and what ahead” : two day conference in collaboration with One World South Asia under the funding support of intellectual Exchange Program of Japan Foundation. The conference was held on the 9th and 10th December 2005 in New Delhi and was attended by 130 participants from corporate, civil society organizations across Asia.
